Experience
I have been a student of programming and computer science since 2015 when I began getting my Bachelor's degree. In 2016, I was a Business Analyst intern working alongside C++ programmers. Then in 2018, I worked as Software Engineer intern at Core Logic, doing Java programming. My internship at Core Logic involved lots of pair programming where I would work alongside senior developers and get to ask them questions. It was a great benefit to be able to ask questions and get advice from other developers, but I still had to practice on my own using online platforms like "Exercism." As I finished my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Loyola Marymount University, I began helping younger students in the computer lab to teach them what I knew about programming and software engineering. After graduation, I began writing tons of Java code on Hackerrank.com to sharpen my problem solving skills. In 2019, I got a full-time position at Ranker.com as a Junior Software Engineer. Here, I was completely on my own and had to become more self-taught. I took courses on Udemy and began to develop code completely independently. I got accepted into a Master's program at UC Irvine on a scholarship where my programming skills would become an advantage. Business Analytics, the field I was studying, requires a mix of business skills and programming skills. Many of the students from business backgrounds had no experience with programming, so I would help them whenever I got a chance. I believe that a good tutor has the ability to ask questions of the student to test their understanding and explain concepts in a clear and logical manner. My best programming teachers have all helped me develop the skills that I have today, and I want to pay that forward. I have had to learn programming myself through many different channels such as YouTube videos, online courses, in-person courses, and coding problem websites. Learning how to program is a skill that requires constant dedication and practice. I would love to tutor of any student of any ability.
