Education

My educational qualifications include a graduate degree in Mass Communication, with a concentration in both journalism and science/technical writing. The subject of my thesis was a qualitative analysis of early newsmagazine coverage of the AIDS epidemic. I was a student member of the National Association of Science Writers and am a member of the American Association of University Professors.

Experience

I presented an original concept paper titled: "The Ability to Advance Knowledge in a Trans-Global Learning Environment" at The 5th China-United States Forum on Distance Education in Nanjing, China. The audience for this forum was comprised of international educators from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), China Youth Centre for International Exchange, and The Open University of China, and I was awarded a Professional Development Grant for reimbursable travel expenses to the forum. Similarly, the publication of my paper was acknowledged at UMUC's 2012 Academic Achievement Award Dinner, and my ability to successfully guide students toward a better understanding of the skills required for effective writing was recognized by the Interim Dean of Undergraduate Studies (UMUC). Moreover, I am a fee-based editor for the Hume Writing Center at Stanford University, which is an unaffiliated position. And, I am presently finishing up the draft of my first book, which is an instructional handbook on teaching military students.
