Education

Experience

I have tutored students for nearly a decade now in all subjects through tenth grade and all history/English/writing classes through graduate school using as closely as possible the psychological principles of growth mindset. Growth mindset, to me, entails fostering in a person's mind the belief that they can succeed and learn through effort, determination and environment and that ability is not a fixed or inherent trait that can only be coaxed but not developed. As a graduate of the Webb Schools in Claremont with teachers committed to my academic, psychological and physical well-being, I can definitively say that a learning environment paced by encouragement from the teacher, sustained effort by the student and holistic instruction about how to learn no matter the subject is an effective one and exhibits the hallmarks of growth mindset. I love being able to help students succeed and develop a style of learning that they can take with them well beyond our tutoring sessions. SAT - 670 in Math, 720 in Verbal, 730 in Writing (previously SAT II), 750 in US History Subject Test AP - 5 in World History, US History, European History, English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition I currently work as a volunteer attorney at the pro bono law firm Public Counsel and thus use the principles of contract law, tort law and civil procedure daily. I received the highest grade in my class on my graduate thesis which explored the intersection of international human rights law and US constitutional law and was a staff editor at a law review. All of this information is verifiable upon request.

Hobbies

I have many varied interests. As a pianist for over 20 years, I like to play anything from all styles of music (even rap can be played...kind of) and was in choir in both high school and college. I enjoy outings of all kinds from the museum to hiking in Mt. Baldy to the beach. I especially like reading, baseball and basketball (particularly the Dodgers and Lakers), video games when I have the time and making humor as dry as possible. In addition, I have done some traveling and spent a summer in Europe studying international law. I also very much love spending time with my family and my dogs and cats.
